Larynx cancer

Laryngeal cancer is one of the head and neck cancers. The larynx is the voice box. Please also see the section under head and neck

Cancer of the larynx is a relatively uncommon cancer, it is associated with tobacco and alcohol consumption. It is mainly a disease of middle and late life. Most patients are over 45. It affects both men and women, although it is more common in men.

For patients that have had a laryngectomee (where there are no vocal cords)and need to breath through an opening in the neck - not through the nose or mouth they may carry an alert card. This card gives details on how to perform emergency artificial respiration.
