Ovarian cancer

The ovaries are part of the female reproductive system, they are found in the pelvis ( lower part of the abdomen). The ovaries are therefore close to other organs such as the bowel, the ureters that drain from the bladder, and the bladder itself.

Most ovarian cancers are a type called 'epithelial' cancer. Epithelial cancer means that the cancer has started in the cells that cover the surface of an organ, in this case the ovary.

There are a number of options for someone diagnsosed with ovarian cancer and this will be discussed with you by your health professionals.
