Community trusts provide community, rehabilitation and children's health services including District Nursing.
There are 7 Hospices within Sussex. Hospices are best known as providers of specialist palliative care for people who are near the end of life and for their families. However, many also provide symptom control advice and assessment of complex needs throughout the palliative care stage.
Some hospices also offer counselling and other services on an 'out-patient' basis and may have a 'day hospice' offering specialist non-residential support.
Hospitals are run by Acute Hospital Trusts and provide what is knows as Secondary Care. Acute Trusts are usually responsible for more than one hospital site, for example East Sussex Hosptials Trust runs both The Conquest Hospital in Hastings, and the Distrect General Hospital in Eastbourne.
Primary Care Trusts are responsible for the planning and commissioning GP services for their local population.
