£75k for Innovative Work - "Shine"
"Shine" is The Health Foundation’s new annual award for innovation, looking at ideas that tackle challenges to high quality care, ideas that are developed, tested and based on evidence.
The Health Foundation is looking to invest £75,000 in each of 18 teams across the health service: commissioning, primary care, acute care, mental health and beyond and are seeking people with the best innovative ideas and the skills to put together an innovations trial to develop and test that thinking.
This year’s challenge is: what new approaches to delivering healthcare can improve quality whilst also saving money?

Development of Chemotherapy Services Study Day
Thursday 16th July 2009
Deans Place Hotel, Alfriston, BN26 5TW
The study day was a great success with over 70 people in attendance and with representation from each organisation and across the disciplines. The day proved to be an invaluable opportunity for a variety of health care professionals and multiple organisations to get together to start working towards developing a different model for chemotherapy services within the SCN in the future.
Overall the study day was very well received and people commented on the energy and enthusiasm which they hoped would be maintained. The feedback was excellent and people said how useful this day was in looking at how chemotherapy services can be developed and how choices for patients can be improved. People found being able identify some of the challenges and barriers to change very useful.
Some of the comments from the evaluation included:-
“Excellent informative day. Made very useful contacts and it will enhance my capabilities”
“As a workforce planning lead, I found the information/issues/challenges the most useful aspects and can now see what strategic input will be needed”
“Very interesting study day. Great opportunity to find out new initiatives from other parts of the UK & having the chance to meet with commissioners to discuss improvements in providing chemo services”
“Very useful event to brainstorm with colleagues outside a work setting - would love to do it again”
“Really good day learnt lots”
“Patient feedback was both useful and informative”
