Clinical audit involves reviewing, maintaining and improving the quality of patient care.
The network is involved in three main areas of clinical audit:
The Network's tumour specific, cross-cutting and nursing groups all have ongoing clinical audit programmes. Audit topics relevant to the Network are selected by the groups.
NCASP is commissioned by the Healthcare Commission to run national clinical audits for heart disease, diabetes, and cancer.
Participation in NCASP audits is monitored in the Healthcare Commission's annual healthcheck for Acute Trusts and in the National Cancer Peer Review Process.
