The SCN Oncology E-Prescribing Project Board is responsible for ensuring the successful procurement, installation and running of an oncology e-prescribing system for the network’s acute trusts by March 2010.

The system will provide comprehensive facilities to support electronic chemotherapy prescribing, medication administration and dispensing activities including patient scheduling, dispensing worksheets, treatment/patient labels and dispensing and storage.

The system will facilitate safe and risk-averse systems of work and work towards paperless systems. Electronic scheduling of treatment and medication administration will also improve workflow and maximise available resources.

Access to the oncology sections will be separated from standard prescribing both by access differences and restrictions.

The system will also include verification procedures and ensure compliance with MHRA guidelines and legal requirements as within the Medicines Act and the Misuse of Drugs Act.
