Central Venous Access Devices: 'Train the Trainer' Course, Lewes - 16th July, 2007.
Nationally and locally there has been great variance in practice with Central venous access devices, which has made auditing of care difficult and has training in the district challenging.
The Sussex Cancer Network has worked closely with a variety of teams within the Acute Trusts to standardise the way central venous access devices are managed. A Network wide CVAD policy has been developed and accepted by the Acute Trusts.
The Network has funded two 'train the trainer' courses.
The aim of the study day is to provide key nurses with the necessary skills to train other staff in managing central venous access devices, such a Hickman lines and PICC lines, using the aseptic non-touch technique (ANTT).
ANTT is an evidence based and well established technique and is rapidly gaining recognition as an excellent standard to adopt for any intravenous therapy.
The 'train the trainer courses have been organised and managed by the Macmillan Senior Chemotherapy Nurse, to book a place email or call 01273 403525.
The study days have been set up in different venues so that they are accessible to staff across the Network.
Courses are free of charge.
The first day run on 6th June in Hastings, received a positive evaluation.
