Diagnosis and tests

Around 5,000 people in the UK are diagnosed with cancer each week.

Most people will go to see their GP first who will then refer them to a specialist doctor at a hospital for some tests if they suspect there is any possibility of the symptoms being connected with cancer.

Although it is sometimes possible to make a diagnosis based on its appearance, most cancers are diagnosed by a series of investigations or tests.
